BBQ & Silent Auction

Regarding the 2020 Satori BBQ & Silent Auction

On April 17th, 2020, Texas Governor Greg Abbot canceled the remainder of all Texas public and private schools. Events associated with these schools were also canceled in an abundance of caution for the health and safety of all families.

A fundraiser, in lieu of the BBQ & Auction, has been set up by Rich Mullikin. In his words:

Please join the Satori School Family by helping us make up the difference from the money we typically raise at our Galveston-World-Renowned BBQ event held the first Saturday in May each year at the Garten Verein. The school raises over $30,000 during the BBQ fundraiser each year and that money goes right back to the school.

We know that there are many families struggling, many out of work, many just trying to get by so we realize this is probably the absolute worst time to ask for financial help.

But, because we cannot hold our BBQ event this spring with our 36 cooked briskets on Bubba, the smoker, and we can’t have our kids’ artwork on display, and we cannot offer our excellent silent auction packages and items, we are humbly asking for your support.

Funds raised from this GoFundMe event will be designated for a new science curriculum for our oldest students, as well as equipment for our thriving fine arts department. In addition, we would like to reserve 10% of the profits to contribute to teacher retirement funds! We are extremely proud of our teachers who foster creativity and growth in our children, as well as create an environment in which they feel safe and loved.

This is Satori’s 39th year teaching elementary kids (we’ve just added 6th-8th grades as well) and we’ve been doing the BBQ fundraiser for over 30 years.

This year, we have 54 students attending (that’s a record number for us) and next year will be our first year with 8th grade students! And our students are busy learning remotely right now and are continuing to thrive!

Satori’s mission is “to provide a nurturing environment where children learn within the context of a hands-on, integrated curriculum.” Help us keep growing!!!
