Academics

Students at Satori are taught in multi-age classrooms, i.e. a two grade level per class. This model of education has proven that the youngest learner in every classroom learns incrementally more and scores higher nation-wide on standardized testing because of being exposed to next grade curriculum. Additionally, students spend two years in each classroom, ensuring that there is ample time to master areas needing improvement; no child is retained based on academic performance.

Curriculum at Satori is vertically aligned, and the state standards are used as a baseline for the delivery of instruction. Additionally, Satori continues to teach handwriting, grades k-5th, to foster whole brain engagement and fine motor skills; “Handwriting without Tears” is the basis of that curriculum.

Students are tested twice a year using the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. Fall testing provides teachers and parents with an individualized learning plan for each child that serves as a guide for instruction for the rest of the year.

In addition to a rigorous academic curriculum, Satori offers instruction in Spanish, art, music, computer, yoga, and physical education. Students also attend classes in phonics four times a week to reinforce spelling and reading. Before and after school care are available, as well as extra-curricular activities.
